601am Returns Home

Last year, I sold 601am to Six Apart, makers of Movable Type. We worked with the team in Japan to start to re-align the future for their products and services.

However, we’ve decided that going forward, Infocom and Six Apart Japan will focus on their products (like Movable Type and Lekumo) and 601am will focus on solutions. Thus, I have re-assumed ownership of 601am and acquired Topics from Six Apart.

Topics recently gained notoriety when it handled the traffic for Paper Magazine’s certain photos of a certain body part of Kim Kardashian. It also powers such sites as Serious Eats, Bomb Magazine and Gothamist. We’re going to take Topics to a wider audience and will have more to talk about in the coming months.

601am has been on fire lately — signing new clients and producing excellent work, thanks to my capable team. We’re excited to grow 601am and to that end, I’ve hired Brandon Hess as Director of Marketing. He comes to us from ReadyTalk, where he ran their inbound marketing efforts, and also has a wide background in agency and media work. He has been tasked with marketing 601am to new clients and also starting a digital marketing practice within 601am.

I’m excited to once again be shepherding 601am, the company I started 7 years ago and the website I started 14 years ago.
